The Sleep Number Bed
From Select Comfort
The Sleep Number Bed (*) is produced and
sold by Select Comfort. The Sleep Number Bed was invented by entrepreneur
Robert Walker who founded the Select Comfort Corporation in 1987. The company
has sold over one million mattress systems and has an annual turnover of more
than $250 million.
What Is The Sleep Number Bed?
The Sleep Number Bed uses an air bed mattress. Instead of coils and
springs this mattress uses air pockets to cushion the body. The use
of these air pockets is the key to the special features of the Sleep Number Bed:
Adjustable Mattress
Unlike conventional mattresses, the mattress on the Sleep Number Bed is not
of fixed firmness. Instead the firmness can be adjusted, making it softer or harder
as desired. The settings vary from 0 to 100 meaning that you can fine-tune the support
the mattress gives to give the perfect level of comfort for you.
The ability to find your ideal setting is the heart of the system - your "sleep
number". This is simply the setting where you get the best night's sleep.
This ability to change the firmness of the mattress can also be useful if
your needs change - for example when a woman is pregnant.
The other significant feature of the Sleep Number Bed is that each side of
the mattress can be adjusted independently. If you and your partner have different
mattress preferences then instead of settling for a compromise that suits neither
of you, you can each have your side of the bed set at the firmness you prefer.
The ability of the Sleep Number bed to adapt to different users also makes it
a good choice for high quality hotels and resorts. Many of these buy the Sleep Number bed
to provide added value to their customers.
