Hammock Chairs
A hammock chair? What's that? Is it a hammock? Is it a chair? Do you sit in it? Do you sleep in it?
Yes!
Although some people find hammocks awkward, many consider them one of the best ways to relax and enjoy the way they swing
gently. There are times
you want to relax like this without actually laying down - for instance when reading, chatting or
watching TV. Hence the hanging hammock chair seat.
What Is A Hammock Chair?
A hammock chair is essentially a hammock designed for sitting rather than
laying down. Well known brands include Hammaka and AirChair (Air Chair).
As with traditional hammocks, the support can be made from a range of materials including woven rope, canvas
and other fabrics. You can buy them in a huge range of styles from simple to ornate. They can be used indoors or, if
you're lucky with your climate, outdoors in the garden.
Hanging
Like all hammocks, the seated variety need to be hung somewhere - it's that suspension in air that gives the unique feel.
To do this a rope at the top is attached to some fixed point like a ceiling, beam or branch. Be absolutely sure that whatever
you're attaching to is strong enough to support the weight - otherwise you might not only have a nasty fall but also
bring the house down! If you unsure about this then an alternative is to buy a special frame or stand, often in the form
of a C-frame.
As always remember: safety first. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions.
