History
The Thomasville brand builds on over a century of tradition. The company began as the
Thomasville Chair Company in 1904, one of many furniture makers in North Carolina.
Following cash flow problems the company was bought out by the Finch brothers, local
timber farmers to whom Thomasville owed money.
The Finch family guided the company to success, achieving sales of $1 million by 1917. By
the 1950s turnover reached $17 million. Durng this period their top of the line product
was named Finch Fine Furniture.
In the 1960s the company was renamed Thomasville Furniture Industries, Inc (TFI) and in
1968 was purchased by Armstrong World Industries. In 1995 TFI became part of
Furniture Brands International, Inc.
