Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic is one of the world's best known brands of memory foam and the company claims its proprietary Tempur foam to be superior to other generic foams found on the market. It prides itself on quality and the company's products have received recognition and awards from groups including NASA, Consumers Digest Best Buy and the Good Housekeeping Seal. As part of its service Tempur currently offers a "90 Night Tryout" plan along with an extra long 20 year warranty on mattresses (check terms and conditions).

History

Memory foam was first created for the NASA space programme in the 1970s and later developed for public use. Much of this later development was performed by Swedish company Fagerdala that was merged into the Danish company Dan-Foam.

The US based Tempur-Pedic company was started following a meeting in 1992 between Bob Trussell of Kentucky and Dan-Foam. Memory foam engineering and production facilities were built by Temour-Pedic in the US states of Virginia and New Mexico. The US company was so successful that Dan-Foam later merged with it to produce the new Tempur-Pedic based in Lexington, Kentucky.

In 1998 Tempur-Pedic received a NASA plaque of recognition and was licensed by the US Space Foundation to use their "Certified Technology" seal.

Products

As well as the original Tempur foam formulation the company today also sells two main variations: higher density Tempur-HD and extra soft Tempur-ES. At the time of writing products are currently divided into three main collections:

•   TEMPUR-Cloud
Soft ES foam available as Cloud, Cloud Supreme or Cloud Luxe.
•   TEMPUR-HD
Higher density HD foam available in Rhapsody, Grand and Allura Beds.
•   TEMPUR-Contour
The firmest feel available in Contour, Contour Select and Contour Signature.

For younger sleepers you can buy the TempurOriginal, a smaller size mattress designed for children or teenagers.
