Mattress SpecialistsThe Serta group is the second largest mattress company and their Perfect Sleeper the best selling mattress in America. The company has a history of innovation in mattress design to support their slogan: "the world's best mattress".
Serta is interesting in that it isn't so much a single company as a collection of them working together. (I wonder what the collective noun is for companies? A profit of producers?)
HistorySerta was first formed in 1931 and today is owned and run by eight licensees including the National Bedding Company (NBC). In November 2004 NBC took over responsibility for running the company's entire US operation.
The company's innovations in mattress design include Pillow Soft in the 1970s, Comfort Quilt in the 1990s and Fireblocker which from 2005 became standard in every US produced Serta sleep set.
Serta has also become well known for their range of memory foam mattresses and mattress toppers.
Serta mattresses available to buy today are organised in four collections: : Perfect Sleeper, Luxury Response, Perfect Day and Vera Wang. As well as traditional design styles you can buy both memory foam and latex based products. The group also produces other bedroom items such as pillows and futons.
Counting SheepSerta is famous for its "Counting Sheep" ads which feature animated sheep complaining that the company's mattresses are putting them out of business. The commercials were created by Aardman Animations whose previous work with sheep includes Wallace and Gromit as well as Shaun the Sheep.
The Serta sheep have become a product brand in their own right and you can buy all sorts of items from plush stuffed sheep to slippers.
