Nautica

Nautica is a popular American design brand with its headquarters in New York. Although probably best known for its ranges of clothing for men and women, the company also produces a selection of home products including bedding and bed linens.

History

Nautica was founded in 1983 by clothing designer David Chu and a partner. Chu's partner was bought out by New York based State-O-Maine in 1984, allowing Nautica products to be sold via the State-o-Maine distribution channels. This was so successful that in 1994 State-o-Maine changed its name to Nautica Enterprises Ltd. The company opened its 100th retail store in 2000.

Today Nautica is part of the VF Corporation which purchased the company in 2003. It describes itself as a "global lifestyle brand" and the range as "a complete home collection". You can buy Nautica products in over 170 branded stores covering 64 different countries - and, of course, via online outlets.

By The Sea

Nautica takes its inspiration from all things related to the sea. The company name comes from the Latin word nauticus, meaning ship, and many of the company's products are more or less directly associated with this theme. Watery blues and sandy yellow-browns occur frequently throughout the various design palettes.

In keeping with the nautical theme the Nautica logo is a spinnaker - a specialised ship sail. This logo is intended to symbolise "adventure, action and classicism".

Bedding

For the bedroom Nautica sell a variety of products including comforters, duvets, decorative pillows, sheets and pillowcases.

As you might expect, the bedding collections have suitably watery names. At the time of writing these currently include:
